Help shape the design of places and spaces in Stockport
Stockport is one of 10 local authorities selected as Design Code Pathfinders for 2024-25.

The areas will receive a share of £1m as well as support from the Ministry of Housing, Community and Local Government to produce exemplar design codes.
Design Codes are a set of principles and rules for new development to help create better and more sustainable places and neighbourhoods.
We are working with industry experts to help deliver the code. This includes Tibbalds (planning and urban design), Design Yorkshire (engagement), Places Matter (training and critical friend review) and Aspinall Verdi (financial and viability advice). We are also working with the University of Manchester (MUD Lab) to help deliver the code.
We want to make sure that the code addresses the things which are important to local people. We want anyone who lives, works, visits or studies in Stockport to get involved. This is your opportunity to help shape the scope and content of the design code. The survey will ask what things you would most like to see improved and what your priorities are for future development in Stockport.
Councillor Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council said ‘We are very pleased to have been selected to take part in the Design Code Pathfinder Programme. We are committed to making sure that new development is of quality and character to create sustainable and liveable places. A new design code, that is embedded with the ambitions of our local residents, will help to ensure that this commitment is achieved’
Katja Stille, Director at Tibbalds, said: “The Council has an ambitious vision for the district and is keen to work with the local community and stakeholders in order to ensure we develop a Design Code that has the buy-in and support required to make it a success. Consultation and engagement are fundamental to our approach and we are looking forward to working with the Council team and local community to bring the collective vision to life.”
