Help shape Stockport’s design guide for new town centre homes
Consultation on the design guide runs until July 3
Stockport residents have been asked to have their say on a design guide that will influence what type of homes will be built as part of the town centre’s ongoing £1billion regeneration.
Stockport’s town centre continues to go through a period of change and growth and at the heart of this transformation are ambitious plans to increase and enhance the town centre’s residential offer.
To make sure high-quality and sustainable residential growth takes place, the council has been tasked with clearly outlining its design expectations.
As a result, the Stockport Town Centre Residential Design Guide has been created, which sets out the authority’s design expectations for the town centre.
Once adopted, the design guide is intended for use by developers, designers and decision-makers to help guide future residential developments.
The council has prepared the guide to align with their ambitions for Stockport, working with industry experts to ensure high quality, achievable recommendations for the future of our town.
But before the guide is confirmed, the council would like feedback from residents and a consultation has been launched that will run until July 3.
Cllr Mark Hunter, leader of Stockport Council, said: “The council has set out a radical new approach to tackling future housing needs and the changing roles of town centres.
“We are committed to making sure that new housing developments are of a quality and character to create sustainable and liveable places.
“The Town Centre Residential Design Guide will ensure that this commitment is delivered through the development management process.”
