Harry Potter Book Day Festivities
The Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery will be hosting a free Harry Potter ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Book Day next month!
On Sunday 11th February from 11am to 3pm, the gallery will be transformed into a haven of Hogwarts with each gallery area being assigned its own Hogwarts House: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.
Wannabe witches and wizards can learn more about potions, spells and curiosities from all seven magical Harry Potter books, as well as the companion books in the Hogwarts Library collection.
Make sure to wear wizarding robes or Harry Potter fancy dress!
Keith and Darren from Stockport’s very own Harry Potter Shop Hoot will be joining the fun on the day.
Choose from the list of activities taking place in each house:
Slytherin House: Potion Classes with Professor Yates
Professor Yates is in Slytherin House and here you will learn of the fascinating (and gross) ingredients you can use to make your own potion to take home, which will help protect you from monsters! Find out how to collect the ingredients and the dangers thereof… You have been warned!
Hufflepuff House: Magizoologist* Class with Dr Xenofus Frabbet
Wonder about the dangerous, devious, and delightful creatures to be found in the steaming deserts, burning swamps and vertiginous depths of the wizarding world? Experience the thrill of sights and sounds never before witnessed in darkest Stockport. Marvel at the creatures on display. Jump at the chance to join expert Natural Wizard Doc Frabbet as he explains the splendiferous curiosities that haunt your dreams! Feel and touch the mortal remains of the strangest faunae. Breed your own wondrous and magical beast.
*For any muggle that might not know, in the wizarding world, a witch or wizard who studies magical beasts is called a Magizoologist.
Ravenclaw House: Folding Ministry of Magic Memos, create your own talisman, word searches, and puzzles

Councillor David Sedgwick, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Reform and Governance, said: “This will be a fantastic, fun-filled event where devoted fans will be able to celebrate the magic of J.K. Rowling’s books and pass on the Harry Potter stories to the next generation of readers. Look out for any Harry Potter characters you may recognise on the day and enjoy a full day of magical activities!"
