Grant programme now open for independent restaurants across Manchester

Independent hospitality businesses across Greater Manchester who are focused on supporting their local community are being invited to apply for a grant of £11,000 to support their business. The grant programme is focused on venues owned or operated by underrepresented or economically vulnerable members of the community. This might include those experiencing hardship, ethnic minority, LGBTQIA+ or disabled people.

The Association of Town and City Management and IDA Foundation are working with all Greater Manchester Local Authorities to distribute the funds to great businesses who are doing fantastic things locally. The American Express initiative will see a total of 20 eligible restaurants of community significance across both Greater Manchester and London each receive a grant to enhance their business operations and diner experience.

To qualify, the grant must be used towards critical business needs that support the restaurant for long-term business sustainability. Potential uses could include improvements needed to sustain business operations such as enhancing digital capabilities, building outdoor dining spaces, purchasing new equipment and making other physical improvements.

Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Stockport hospitality businesses and we have some great cafes and restaurants who go above and beyond to support their local community. I would urge those who meet the criteria to apply. We have a diverse culinary scene in Stockport and this would be a huge boost to their business.”

Mark Ross, Chief Executive, Totally Stockport, said: “It is great to see the American Express Grant Programme has returned for 2024. We hope that many of our town centre cafes and restaurant businesses will opt to apply for these grants and make use of these small but essential cash injections. If you need some support applying for these funds do get in touch with the Totally Stockport team and we will do what we can to help!”

Read the FAQs and Terms and Conditions before applying. The application deadline is 5am, 31st May 2024. Find out more and apply.
