Get your prescriptions ordered in time for Christmas

The Christmas festivities will soon be will be underway, so make sure you and your family are ready, especially when it comes to health.

Being prepared isn’t just about having the presents wrapped and turkey stuffed, it’s also about getting your repeat prescriptions requests in nice and early.

All GP practices will be closed on the bank holidays over Christmas and New Year, (Monday, 27 December, Tuesday, 28 December and Monday, 3 January) which means people will struggle if they run out of their medication.

It’s particularly important for those with a long term health condition such as asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease, to make sure they have enough of their medicines to cover the festive period.

Dr Cath Munro, Chair of Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group said, “We want everyone with a long term health condition, along with everyone else, to have a good Christmas and New Year. We really do not want people running out of their medication, becoming poorly and having to spend part of the festive break ill or, worse still, in hospital.

“It can be hard in the busy run up to Christmas to find time to look after yourself but it’s really important that you think about your health and get your repeat prescriptions in on time. If you have the NHS app, you can order your prescription straight from there.”
