Get online. Get connected. A week of special events in Stockport
Would you or someone you know like to get online or improve your digital skills? A Get Online Week event can help.
During Get Online Week (18th to 24th October 2021) we are encouraging people to learn how to use the internet or to become a bit more confident online. The DigiKnow partners have organised lots of events at the One Stockport Hub in Merseyway and other venues across Stockport to help you get online and learn something new. And Saturday 23rd October is DigiFun Day with activities for all the family.
Councillor David Sedgwick, Cabinet Member for Citizen Focus and Engagement says: “Digital inclusion is about making sure that people can use the internet to do things that benefit them day to day. Being online can help you stay connected to the people you love, improve your health and wellbeing and save money. But it is also increasingly a necessity and the COVID-19 crisis has shown how important it is to be able to connect digitally for vital services, schooling, work or Universal Credit.”
The DigiKnow partners are running special events at the One Stockport Hub in Merseyway and other venues across Stockport from Monday 18th to Saturday 23rd October. Or you can just drop-in to get support. A full list of Get Online Week events in Stockport is available on our Events calendar.
Maybe you want to get help to shop or bank online? Get council services or health advice online? Learn the right skills for a new job and how to keep your personal information safe online? Or ways to get online for free or borrow devices? Or maybe you’re looking for something special for the start of half-term and fancy making an e-rubbish monster at the DigiFun day!
Cllr Sedgwick continues: “If you're not online yet, or you’re not very confident at using the internet, I’d like to reassure you that it’s easier than you think and Get Online Week is the perfect opportunity for you to give it a go. Come down to the One Stockport Hub or call into your local library. We’ve got free-to-use devices and Wi-Fi and lots of extra help to get you started.”
To get involved right now, Starting Point Community Learning Partnership, one of the DigiKnow partners, have organised a digital photo competition to spotlight what you love most about Stockport. This isn’t for professional photographers – it’s a chance to practice your digital skills and share what you think is special about Stockport, whether that’s the people, your favourite places or anything else. The competition closes at midnight on Friday 15th October and winners will be announced on DigiFun Day Saturday 23rd October at the One Stockport Hub. Enter the competition for a chance to win some great prizes including Apple AirPods (donated by DigiKnow partner APS).
If you can’t wait until Get Online Week to get help doing things online, you can call the DigiKnow Helpline on 07537 127095 to get support from a Digital Champion or to find out more about borrowing devices.
