Foster Care Fortnight
We're supporting Foster Care Fortnight in a bid to recruit more foster carers in Stockport.
Currently, in Stockport there is a demand for carers who can offer a loving home to teenagers, sibling groups and children with additional needs
The annual campaign, run by the Fostering Network, starts on Monday 14 May to Sunday 27 May 2018. This year’s theme is “Proud to Support Fostering”.
On Monday 14 May 2018, Stockport Town Hall will be lit up in orange to support the campaign and during the two weeks, a range of fostering adverts will be appearing on billboards, radio and social media to help show that people from all sectors of society can be, and are, foster carers. Local foster carers and the fostering team will be participating in the Great Manchester Run on Sunday 20 May 2018 and the Bramhall Park Run on 19 May 2018 to help show their support for fostering for Stockport Council.
Our fostering team will also be holding drop in fostering sessions at the following locations:
- Monday 14 May – Stockport Homes, Edward Street between 11.30am to 2pm
- Thursday 17 May - Woodford Garden Centre, Chester Road between 11am to 3pm
- Friday 18 May - Costa Coffee, Stockport Peel Centre 11am to 2pm
Chris McLoughlin, Director of Children’s Services said: “We are passionate about the difference that foster care makes to the lives of fostered children and young people in Stockport, and Foster Care Fortnight is an excellent opportunity to showcase that difference. But foster care doesn't just transform the lives of the young people who are fostered, it also has the power to change the lives of foster carers, their families and all those who are involved in fostering.”
“Stockport is delighted to be supporting Foster Care Fortnight which is a good opportunity to raise awareness of fostering and I would encourage anyone interested in becoming a foster carer to contact the council’s fostering team for more information.”
We hold monthly open evenings at Stockport Town Hall for people interested in the different types of fostering schemes. The next open evening is taking place on Tuesday 5 June 2018 at Stockport Town Hall, starting at 6pm and finishing at 7.30pm.
