Council backs Foster Care Fortnight
Stockport Council is supporting Foster Care Fortnight and the regional You Can Foster recruitment drive in a bid to recruit more foster carers in Stockport.
The annual campaign starts today Monday 8th to Sunday 21st May 2017.
Currently, in Stockport there is a demand for carers who can offer a loving home to teenagers, sibling groups and children with additional needs and the Council’s fostering service is aiming to highlight the urgent need for more foster carers to be recruited locally who can help transform the lives of the children and young people in their care.
Over the next two weeks, a range of You Can Foster adverts on billboards, buses, radio and social media will be aimed at encouraging local residents to “do something incredible” and consider fostering for their local authority.
The Council fostering team will also be holding events in the borough to meet the public to promote fostering at the following locations:
• Friday 12th May - Costa Coffee, Stockport Peel Centre 11-2pm
• Thursday 18th May - Olive Café Olive Café, Edgeley 11-1pm
• Friday 19th May - Mersey Square, outside The Works 11-2pm
Andrew Webb, Stockport Council’s Corporate Director for People, said: “We need a wide range of services to support families that are struggling, and to protect children: foster placements are at the heart of our strategy. We are committed to recruiting more foster carers for children of all ages but in particular people who can open their heart, and their homes, to vulnerable older children and young people who need support at a critical point in their young lives.
“Stockport is delighted to be supporting Foster Care Fortnight which is a good opportunity to raise awareness of fostering and I would encourage anyone interested in becoming a foster carer to contact the Council’s fostering team for more information.”
The Council holds monthly open evenings at Stockport Town Hall for people interested in the different types of fostering schemes. The next open evening is taking place on Tuesday 6th June at Stockport Town Hall, starting at 6pm and finishing at 7.30 pm.
