Do you have time to volunteer?
If you’d like to get more involved in your local community, discover lots of opportunities for volunteering in ‘Stockport Local’ on the Council’s website.
During the winter months more than at any other time of year, many people across Stockport become increasingly isolated and lonely. However, there are many groups and services that have been set up across our communities to offer support, encourage new interests and bring people together. Many of these groups need volunteers, so if you have a little time to spare, could you yourself get more involved with your community and encourage others to do the same?
If you can help, visit ‘Stockport Local’, the new directory of community groups, services and activities on the Council’s website at: stockport.gov.uk/stockportlocal and click on the ‘Find where to volunteer’ button.
Cllr David Sedgwick, Cabinet Member (Reform and Governance), Stockport Council, said: “Our objective is to build a circle of support for communities so that local people can come together and create stronger, thriving communities. We have created Stockport Local to make it easier for everyone to find all the information they need about their local area in one place. It’s the easy way to find out what’s on, when it’s on and how to join in.”
Don’t forget too that if you are involved with a community group that needs volunteers or that isn’t yet listed it’s easy to add yourselves to the directory – just complete the online form and we’ll do the rest.
