Digiknow: Helping Stockport get connected

The theme of Get Online Week this year is ‘Get online. Get connected.’ Getting online confidently, safely and affordably has never been more important. The pandemic has shown it is now essential for everyone to be able to connect with friends and family, access services, learn and work from home and keep up with the latest news.

Councillor David Sedgwick, Cabinet Member for Citizen Focus and Engagement, says: “We’re hosting more Get Online Week events this year than ever before, to show our community that everyone can learn how to connect with others online and that the DigiKnow partners are here to help.”

DigiKnow Digital Champions can help, whether you want to take that first step to get online or whether you need help with a specific task. There are sessions on finding and applying for work, health and wellbeing websites, banking and shopping online, technology for caring, managing your benefits and council tax, free e-books, newspapers and magazines, applying to foster or adopt, researching your family history, applying for community funding and more. A complete list of Get Online Week events in Stockport is available on our Events calendar.

The week finishes with a DigiFun Day 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday 23rd October with lots of family activities for the start of half-term, including making an e-rubbish monster, playing free online games, trying out coding or enjoying the digital radio live session!!

Councillor Sedgwick continues: “The DigiKnow partners are running a wide range of sessions covering lots of different ways that you may want to use the internet. There are free-to-use PCs and tablets at the One Stockport Hub or WiFi to use on your own devices. It’s all very informal, and you can simply drop in with your questions and bring in any devices you need help with using.”
