Deadline for Great Get Together street parties approaches
The Council is reminding residents and community groups that if they are organising a street party, the deadline for requesting a free road closure is on May 24th
The Great Get Together is being held across the UK on June 16-18 and has been organised by The Jo Cox Foundation, the Big Lunch and dozens of other groups.
The weekend will mark the first anniversary of Batley and Spen MP, Jo Cox’s murder on June 16 2016.
Caroline Simpson, Stockport Council’s Corporate Director for Place said
“I would really encourage our residents to support the Great Get Together. In addition to organising street parties there are also lots of ways residents can get involved whether it be as something as simple as baking biscuits and cakes to share with neighbours or having a community picnic in a local park. I can’t think of a better tribute to Jo Cox than for us all to connect with each other and celebrate living in our local community.”
To apply for a road closure see the online form.
Organisers are being encouraged to register at The Great Get Together web site and they will be sent a kit full of ideas and tips.
