Children and young people are invited to help #StampOutStigma around mental health by entering a creative competition.

Creative competition, '#StampOutStigma', now open for Stockport's young people

The #StampOutStigma competition has been launched by Beacon Counselling and Stockport Family (health, education and care services).

Running until 12 June 2022, the competition asks young people to answer the question, 'how do you take care of your mental health?' though some form of creative work.

The competition winner will receive the opportunity to work with a professional designer to develop their work, and the finished outcome will be used to promote mental health support across the borough.

Laura Stephenson, Children and Young People’s Service Manager at Beacon Counselling, said: “We’re really excited to launch 2022’s competition, and this platform to have children’s voices heard through creativity. Last year we had over 500 entries, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the wonderful pieces for this year's competition.”

Submissions will be judged by a panel of other young people, creatives, and mental health workers to find a winner. Entrants will also have the opportunity to display their work in an exhibition if they feel comfortable.

A spokesperson for Stockport Council said: “Getting involved in the competition is a great way of expressing what helps your mental health: What do you do? Where do you go? Who do you speak to? We want to hear from you.

“This is a great opportunity for our young people across the borough to share their talent. We all know that creative expression can be good for our wellbeing, but the winner of the #StampOutStigma competition will also be able to help others too. I can’t wait to see the entries!”

To enter the #StampOutStigma competition, you must be under 18. You can submit scans or photographs of your work by sending an email with your name, age and school to SOS@beacon-counselling.org.uk. Submissions close at 9am on Sunday 12 June.
