Council, partners and faith leaders come together to reflect on the Covid-19 pandemic
Stockport faith leaders were joined by representatives from Stockport Council and community groups at a poignant service to mark the Covid 19 Day of Reflection

The multi-faith event, held at Dialstone Lane Methodist Church, was an opportunity to remember lives lost, celebrate the kindness and selflessness of those who supported their communities, and to reflect on the ongoing legacy of the pandemic five years on.
A silent prayer began proceedings followed by a warm welcome from Rev Raj Patta who emphasised the importance of coming together to remember and heal.
The event included reflections from Deputy Leader of the Council Cllr Mark Roberts, Aba Graham from the Stockport Race and Equality Partnership and Rev. Dr. Jacob, followed by tributes to frontline workers. Flowers were presented to attendees at the end of the event as a tribute to those we’ve lost and to symbolise hope and new beginnings.
Cllr Roberts said that the event was a wonderful reminder of everything that our community has achieved together.
“The pandemic tested us in so many ways, but it also revealed our strength and resilience,” he said.
“As we came together to reflect, we were reminded that, through unity and compassion, we can overcome even the darkest of times.”
There are special places across the borough, created as part of the Covid Commemoration project, where you can reflect on the Covid-19 Pandemic. Find out more about them on the One Stockport website.
