Stockport’s Chris McLoughlin to receive OBE after being named in Queen’s birthday honours

Congratulations to all Stockport residents and workers who received awards following the publication of the Queen’s birthday honours list on Friday 11 June.

Stockport Council’s Director of Children’s Services, Chris McLoughlin, is to receive an OBE for her outstanding contribution to children, young people and their families.

Chris has been committed to improving services for children and their families for over 30 years. She joined Stockport Council in 2009 and became Director of Children’s Services in 2018. Her work includes taking direct responsibility for all children’s services. Chris also takes a leadership role for a range of improvement work across Greater Manchester. She chairs the Greater Manchester School Readiness Board, and the Greater Manchester Children’s Health and Wellbeing Executive. Chris has been instrumental in engineering Stockport’s innovation programme leading to the Stockport Family model which integrates Education, Health and Care services.

“I am thrilled and honoured to be receiving an OBE in the Queen’s latest birthday honours,” said Chris McLoughlin.

“I’d like to thank the fantastic team I have around me for all their hard work and dedication. I have been delighted to receive messages directly from young people whose lives have been turned around as a result of our support and their own hard work. There is still lots more to do, and we are determined to continue to work with children and families in Stockport and Greater Manchester to better understand their needs and aspirations.”

Cllr Colin Foster, Cabinet Member for Children, Family Services and Education at Stockport Council, added: “On behalf of everyone at the council I’d like to extend my warmest congratulations to Chris on being awarded this fantastic honour.

“Chris works extremely hard advocating on behalf of children and young people in Stockport. Her ability to inspire and lead a team is exceptional – I feel proud to work alongside such a dedicated and passionate team member.”

Chris joins some household names being honoured as part of the list, including sports commentator Sue Barker and Great British Bake-Off host Prue Leith.
