Reading is a Superpower! Celebrating Children’s Book Week

Who will your little ones crown the Stockport Children's Book Awards winners?

Reading is a Superpower! Celebrating Children’s Book Week

This week has been International Children’s Book Week, where we get to celebrate the power of books and promote a love of reading in young people. This year’s theme is ‘Reading is a Superpower’, encouraging children to challenge themselves and their friends throughout the week and all year long.

There’s also the chance for your little bookworms to crown their favourites at the Stockport Children’s Book Awards 2021. Drop into your local library to borrow the books on the shortlist, or download the e-books for free! Once your little ones have settled on a favourite, why not have them send in a video explaining why they love their choice? The videos will be shown at the grand awards ceremony!

Access the voting form here , or email childrensbookaward@stockport.gov.uk to find out more.

If this Children’s Book Week has you and your mini book buffs feeling inspired, head down to the One Stockport Hub and visit our dedicated Junior Library. Located on Mersey Square in the town centre, the One Stockport Hub is fully stocked with great reads for little people, so pop in and find your next favourite.

Don’t forget, opening hours at all libraries that are open to the public also include one day a week when each library will be open 12noon – 6pm. This will provide further access for school children and others to access our services, including access to PCs. One Stockport Hub will remain open 9am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday, and 9am – 4pm on Saturday. Plenty of time to come and explore with your children – whether it’s Children’s Book Week or not! See the full list of opening times here.
