Cheer England to victory in Stockport
A big screen is coming to Stockport town centre tomorrow for families and friends to come together and cheer England to victory, as they look to bring football home.
Wednesday night’s World Cup semi-final clash between England and Croatia will be broadcast live on an 11 metre screen in St Peter’s Square, providing the perfect place for families to come together in the summer sun.
“We’ve all been thrilled to see England’s progress in the competition so far, and now we’re in with a shot of bringing the World Cup home once again.
“Stockport is backing the team and wants to give families the chance to come together in our town and cheer the lads on,” said Councillor Alex Ganotis, Leader of Stockport Council.
The free event will be open to all, with tight security arrangements in place to ensure football fans young and old can enjoy every nail-biting minute of the match. The broadcast will start at 6pm ahead of the 7pm kick-off.
No alcohol or glass will be allowed at the event, and security checks will take place at each entrance to St Peter’s Square. There will be a range of soft drinks, food and coffee available to purchase, as well as an ice cream van for half time treats.
Just off the A6, and only a few minutes’ walk from Stockport train station as well as town centre car parks, where everyone can park free after 6pm, the screen is the perfect place for England fans to cheer on the team to victory.
This is just one of the ever-growing number of events taking place in Stockport for residents to enjoy.
