Work is progressing at Cheadle Eco Park, where the timber frame for the new light-industrial workspace is being put in place.
The site on Bird Hall Lane is being transformed into a new business park that will provide modern, eco-friendly workspace for local and growing businesses. Once complete, it is expected to support around 200 jobs, bring new investment into Cheadle and set a new benchmark for sustainable construction in the North West.
The project is expected to be the largest purpose-built industrial and logistics scheme in the country to use a structure made entirely from sustainably sourced timber. By choosing timber instead of a traditional steel frame, combined with sustainably sourced materials throughout, the scheme is delivering a 40% reduction in embodied carbon, underscoring its position as one of the UK’s most environmentally ambitious industrial schemes.
The development is also being designed to use less energy, with features such as air-source heat pumps, natural ventilation, energy-efficient lighting, solar panels and electric vehicle charging points.
The seven-acre site, previously home to older industrial buildings, will be improved with new trees, landscaping, better drainage, a rain garden and walking and cycling links.
Cheadle Eco Park will provide six new units for businesses that need space to grow. The aim is to attract businesses that create good jobs while keeping noise and pollution in the surrounding area low.
The project is supported by funding from the Government’s Town Fund and is part of Cheadle’s wider Town Investment Plan. It is expected to be completed in March 2027.
