Celebrate National Fitness Day with free keep-fit sessions

Stockport Council, in partnership with Life Leisure, is thrilled to announce a day of free events celebrating National Fitness Day on Wednesday, 18 September. This year's theme, 'Your Health is for Life,' emphasises the importance of health and fitness at every stage of life.

The festivities will take place at the Stopford House Piazza, located behind the town hall from 11 am to 2 pm, featuring a variety of activities including Zumba, Body Balance, Glutes and Core, and Yoga sessions. The event promises a fun-filled day for all ages, with information stalls, free take-home activities for children, and local walking group introductions. Attendees can also participate in the spin bike challenge, try out accessible bikes, and benefit from free fitness and health assessments provided by the Stockport Council Public Health Team. Local vendors such as Marleys Tacos and Kafeine Coffee will offer food and drinks to keep the energy high throughout the day.

Councillor Frankie Singleton, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture & Sport, said: "The event is a chance to embrace the positive impact exercise has on us all. It's not just about exercising for short term goals, but about taking small steps towards a lifestyle which can both protect and improve your health for years to come. Aligning with our One Stockport One Future ambition of making sure Stockport is the best place to live a happy and healthy life."

Daniel Barker, Head of Health and Fitness, Life Leisure, added: "As we look forward to celebrating National Fitness Day, we're proud to emphasise the message that 'your health is for life'—a message that truly resonates with everything we do at Life Leisure. Whether you're just starting your fitness journey or continuing to build on it, we're here to support and encourage you every step of the way. We are offering a special deal on membership on the day too, so don't miss out."

Life Leisure offers a varied timetable of activities for all age groups, from the youngest members of our community to older adults, as highlighted in their latest blog post.

Additionally, Life Leisure is hosting a Team Triathlon Challenge across all eight wellbeing hubs. This inclusive event welcomes participants of all abilities—no need to be a seasoned triathlete! Whether you choose to run, cycle, or swim, every mile you log will contribute to the collective goal.
