Borough all set for Age Friendly Week
Stockport Council is urging older people to take time and get involved with local events to mark Age Friendly Week.
Getting underway on Monday 1 October 2018 – and running all week – Age Friendly Week will celebrate our older people and what they bring to our communities.
Around 1 in 4 people who live in Stockport are 60 or over. Stockport has a population that is older than most places in the UK and this provides a fantastic opportunity to be a borough that proactively supports residents to age well and remain healthy, resilient and socially active in their later life.
Councillor Wendy Wild, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care at Stockport Council, said: “Here in Stockport, we're working hard to become an even more Age Friendly borough. As well as focussing on health and social care services, we’re committed to improving the lives of the older people in our local communities. We want to harness the skills and experience that older residents bring to our area whilst ensuring that Stockport is a place where people retain their independence and have a sense of purpose as they grow older.”
