Bank Holiday Arrangements – Monday 19th September
Due to the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Monday 19 September will now be a Bank Holiday.
This is the day of the state funeral: the first many will have witnessed in their lifetime.
The Bank Holiday will allow individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and commemorate Her reign while marking the final day of the period of national mourning.
In accordance with the arrangements for the State funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, usual Bank Holiday arrangements will be in place at Stockport Council.
Our intention is to operate a full waste collection service on the Bank Holiday as well as emergency public realm services.
Leisure centres, libraries, museums and One Stockport Hub will close. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause for anyone who had booked a vaccine appointment on 19 September at One Stockport Hub. Any patients who planned to attend for a vaccination on this day may attend for their vaccination on Tuesday, 20 September instead.
The government have advised schools to close on this day. Early years settings are able to chose whether to close, though we anticipate many will on the Bank Holiday. Please check directly with your child’s setting for more information.
On Sunday (18th September) there will be a national moment of reflection at 8pm. Everyone is encouraged to mark this minute however feels right to them, for example by observing a silence, applauding or singing the national anthem.
There will also be a Civic Church Service in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Sunday 18 September 2022 at 6.30pm at St Mary’s in the Marketplace, Stockport. All are welcome to attend.
At the end of the funeral service on Monday 19th September, there will be a two-minute silence at approximately 11:54am. This will be observed across the UK, and the council encourages residents to take a moment of reflection at this time.
The book of condolence in Stockport Town Hall will be unavailable to sign on Monday 19 September owing to the bank holiday arrangements in place. The book will be available to sign from 9am until 5pm, Tuesday 20 September.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we allow our workforce the chance to mourn with the country at this sad time.
