A shot in the arm for Stockport’s new Mayor!

Councillor Nottingham was sworn in this week, and headed straight to the vaccine clinic.

A shot in the arm for Stockport’s new Mayor!

The new Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Adrian Nottingham, wasted no time on the first day of his term, as he visited a local vaccination centre to get his second jab against COVID-19.

Cllr Nottingham was officially sworn in at a ceremony on Tuesday (25th May). His first appointment as Mayor was to visit Heald Green Village Hall vaccination centre on Wednesday 26th May, to help raise awareness of the importance of getting both jabs.

While visiting, as well as receiving the 2nd dose of his vaccination, the Mayor thanked staff and volunteers at the centre for their tireless work in delivering the vaccination programme, extending his gratitude to those working across Stockport and beyond.

Newly appointed Mayor Cllr Nottingham said: “The COVID-19 vaccination programme has helped to keep thousands of people safe across Stockport. It was important to me that my first appointment as Mayor has been to spotlight the amazing work being done at this vaccination centre and those across the borough and beyond.

“I would stress that the vaccine is safe, very accessible, and the one vital step that we can all take towards getting our communities and local businesses fully operating again. All of the vaccines have been approved by the UK regulatory, the MHRA, which has the highest standards of safety, quality and effectiveness. Additionally, of the millions of people across the country who have taken up the offer of the vaccine, very few have reported serious side effects.

“I would urge the people of Stockport to take up the offer of a vaccination when your cohort is called. It’s the best long-term solution we have to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the community.”

Jen Connolly, Director of Public Health at Stockport Council, added: “With coronavirus cases still present in Stockport, and the circulation of the new variants, it’s absolutely crucial that the people of Stockport gets both doses of their vaccination – just like the Mayor has. This is because only both doses give full protection against COVID-19.”

Book your vaccination online, or call 119 when your cohort is called. You do not need to be registered at a GP, or give your NHS number to get your vaccine.
