New schemes for 2020
Last updated 8 June 2020
Romiley Active Neighbourhood
Working closely with residents and WalkRide Romiley, it's proposed to develop an Active Neighbourhood for streets north of Compstall Road. This will create improvements for pedestrians in the village centre as well as providing parklets for the community to enjoy. A safe cycle route to Stockport Town Centre will also be created with new crossings on Compstall/Stockport Road, making it easier to access and enjoy the canal and encourage the enablement of play streets.
Heatons Active Neighbourhood
We'll be working closely with residents and WalkRide Heatons to develop the delivery of an Active Neighbourhood. The aim is to transform the area streets and to encourage residents to use alternatives to using the car, particularly for short journeys. Consideration will be given to amenities such as trees, benches and play equipment. A consultation process will make sure that as many of the community as possible are happy with the proposals.
Edgeley to Stockport Walking and Cycle Link
The scheme will provide a high quality walking and cycle link between Edgeley and Stockport Town Centre via a new bridge on Thomson Street. It will also create a route through the station area connecting with the Stockport Interchange Bridge (currently in the consultation phase). The improved walking and cycling links will service Stockport Exchange and also connect to the proposed Stockport Town Centre West residential development and wider town centre.
Stockport Interchange Bridge and Podium Park
In March 2020 we consulted on proposals for an Interchange Bridge and Podium Park as part of the Mayor’s Cycling and Walking Challenge Fund (MCF). We are in the process of collating, analysing and considering all responses received. The feedback from the consultation will be used as part of the scheme development process prior to any implementation.
