Merseyway is Stockport's main town centre retail centre and it plays a pivotal role in shopping offer of the town.

Significant investments are planned to update and improve Merseyway over the coming years. This will give residents and businesses a shopping centre they can be proud of.

The growth of Merseyway will complement the investment work taking place across the town centre.

2. Structural and open space improvement programme

This involves essential maintenance of the 400m long Merseyway bridge, which supports the heart of the shopping centre. We've already carried out extensive repairs and structural improvements from below and we now need to waterproof the bridge to extend its lifespan.

We'll be taking this opportunity to improve the shopping centre open space with:

  • high quality paving
  • new lighting
  • benches
  • planters
  • landscaping

These works will help to support the wider regeneration of the town centre and will complement the investments planned at Stockroom and the former BHS unit, which are part of our ongoing strategy to improve the high street and create a vibrant town centre that benefits visitors, residents and local businesses.

We plan to have these improvements completed by summer 2023.
