Project information
We bought Merseyway in April 2016. The shopping centre provides the town centre's major retail offer and comprises over 330,000 square feet of retail space. It is also let to more than 90 separate tenants.
The purchase was funded from council income at no cost to taxpayers. The reason for the purchase was to create a sustainable future for the centre through a series of targeted redevelopments. One of the aims for the redevelopment of Merseyway is to better integrate it into the rest of the town centre, and to complement our other exciting regeneration projects such as:
- Redrock
- Market Place and Underbanks
- the new Interchange Park and Bus Station
Investment in Merseyway will seek to improve perceptions of not just Stockport's retail offer, but Stockport as a whole. It’s ultimately about creating a town centre that will benefit local communities, businesses and the residents of our borough.
Other key projects that are contributing to this change in perceptions include:
- Merseyway Innovation Centre
- redevelopment of the former BHS store
- Stockroom
- public realm improvements
