The Neighbourhood Planning Regulations require councils to publicise a neighbourhood area application for at least six weeks on their website and bring it to the attention of people who live, work or carry out business in the area. A group acting as the prospective Mellor, Marple Bridge, Mill Brow and Compstall Neighbourhood Forum applied to have an area of Stockport designated as a neighbourhood area as well as a neighbourhood forum. These are the first steps required to enable local residents and businesses to help shape planning in their local area through the use of neighbourhood planning powers.
The consultation on the neighbourhood area and forum application took place on 27 October 2019 and ended on 7 December 2018. The Mellor, Marple Bridge, Mill Brow and Compstall Neighbourhood Area and Neighbourhood Forum was designated on 17 January 2019.
