Marple South ward name consultation
We are seeking your views on a proposal to change the name of Marple South Ward to Marple South and High Lane Ward to better reflect the whole community it represents.
A change of ward name will have no impact on the number of councillors elected for the ward or the councillors that represent the ward. The new ward name would be used in all election material for the local elections in May 2018 and future elections.
A local authority may change the name of any of its electoral areas unless the area’s name is protected. A ward name is protected for a period of five years after it has been given by the Boundary Commission as part of a formal boundary review.
As the Marple South ward name was given at the time of the Periodic Electoral Review in 2003, i.e. more than 5 years ago, the name of a ward can be changed by resolution of the council.
You can get involved by completing the questionnaire below or via touchscreen kiosks in Marple Library and High Lane Library. Paper copies of the questionnaire are also available from both libraries.
The consultation period lasts from 17 July 2017 until 11 August 2017. When the consultation has ended, a report will be submitted to a specially convened council meeting on 26 October 2017 which will consider the views received and make a decision.
