June 2026 update
Construction of the new Marple Hub is continuing, with visible progress on site and new facilities starting to take shape ahead of completion later this year.
The new hub will bring together modern health, leisure and library facilities in the heart of Marple, creating a welcoming space designed to support health, wellbeing and community connections.
Progress on site
Significant milestones have been reached in recent weeks:
- the building’s brickwork is now complete, with scaffolding removed across all sides
- cladding is being installed on the north, east and west elevations
- work has started on the external plant area
- inside, the swimming pool hall is taking shape, with floor and wall tiling now underway
- internal works are progressing, including walls, ceilings and mechanical and electrical installation
Over the next few weeks, work will continue on:
- external cladding and insulation
- landscaping around the site
- pool tiling and internal finishes
- installation of ceilings and changing areas
Sustainable and future-focused design
As part of the development, the site will include sustainable drainage features to help manage surface water and protect the local environment. Groundworks will begin later this summer, with further work ongoing to finalise the wider drainage solution.
New park and play improvements
Alongside the hub, improvements in Marple Memorial Park are also moving forward thanks to £500,000 of Sport England funding. These will include:
- a new agility trail
- a pump track and all-wheels area
- improved walking routes and spaces to relax
Work has been shaped by feedback from local schools and groups, including the Friends of Marple Park, helping ensure the improvements reflect what the community wants.
Working with the community
The project team continues to work closely with local groups on a range of features, including:
- a new woodland path
- relocation of benches
- updates to the Jubilee garden
- the relocation of the much-loved community frog
Highways improvements
Supporting the development, a number of improvements are being made to local roads to make it easier and safer to travel in the area.
A new zebra crossing on Hollins Lane is currently being installed, with resurfacing works taking place too.
The 20mph speed limit will be extended along the full length of Hollins Lane once works are complete.
Plans are also in place for a new toucan crossing on Stockport Road, with further details to be confirmed later this summer

In the play area, a new multi-play unit will be installed soon, ready for families to enjoy over the summer. Work on the playground begins the week starting 15 June. During the installation, disruption will be kept to a minimum. While most of the play area will remain open, the swing set may need to be closed for short periods during the works. The installation programme is scheduled for completion in time for the full re-opening of the playground at the start of the school summer holidays.
Looking ahead
The Marple Hub is on track to become an important place for local residents, offering high-quality facilities and improved outdoor spaces for people of all ages.
Further updates will be shared as the project moves towards completion, including information on how residents can sign up for memberships and make the most of the new facilities.
