May 2025 update
Works that have taken place over the last 2 months include:
- demolition of the library
- tree planting across Memorial Park
- starting the earthworks to level the site for foundations
Looking ahead, works that will take place include:
- completion of the earthworks
- starting the foundations including forming some of the tanks around the pool
- completion of the infant playground
The demolition of the library is a key milestone for the project and we're pleased to share some before and after pictures. The library will make way for the new community hub.

Marple Baths plaque
Following the demolition of the former Marple Baths building earlier this year, the Marple Baths Plaque was removed. Over the last few months, we've have been working with Farmers Bronze Restoration to restore it back to its best.
We're now excited to share with you a picture of the restored plaque that was presented to the people of Marple in 1931. The plaque will be included within the new Marple Community Hub for opening to allow for it to be within the Marple community.

Social value
Willmott Dixon Construction (WDC) have provided some amazing social value already on the Marple Community Hub project and we're pleased to highlight some of the work they've been doing.
Marple Community Woodland Path
As part of the Community Woodland Path that's being created in Marple Memorial Park, the WDC social value team spent 2 morning mornings with Marple Hall secondary school students and students from the Green Council at Marple College. These students learnt about the community hub and potential careers in construction, and got the chance to plant their very own saplings.

All Saints’ C of E Primary School
WDC delivered an assembly to the children at All Saints’ C of E Primary School, talking about the community hub and careers in construction, and the idea of construction club. Within an hour of the assembly, the construction club was over-subscribed.
In February, WDC delivered the first session, which a free afterschool club aimed at children who would usually struggle to attend the usual paid for after school clubs. There are 6 sessions planned and they have currently delivered 2.
The children have built towers and giant tetrahedrons all whilst displaying brilliant employability skills like communication, problem solving, resilience and leadership skills. There was some pretty special teamwork and co-operation going on in these sessions too.
All Saints’ C of E Primary school had also worked hard to raise funds for their new trim trail as their old one was dangerous and the children could no longer play on it. However, they had been quoted just under £2,000 to have the old one removed. WDC spoke to their supply chain partners, Wright Landscapes, to remove the old equipment ready for the new one to be installed and unveiled this March.
The WDC Social Value Team received high praise from All Saints’ C of E Primary Headteacher:
"A Heartfelt Thank You to Becky and the Wilmott Dixon Team:
"We would like to extend our deepest thanks to Becky and the entire Wilmott Dixon team for the incredible support they have provided to All Saints' C of E Primary School and our wider community. Their partnership has truly helped our school to access further funding and bring to life a range of meaningful social value initiatives that have enriched the lives of our pupils and those in our local area."
