Accessible Information Standard

The Accessible Information Standard is a mandatory requirement that applies to all providers of NHS and publicly funded adult social care. This includes:

  • care homes, day care and support services
  • voluntary, community and private organisations
  • Public Health
  • NHS Trusts, Foundation Trusts, and GP practices

The aim of the standard is to make sure that if you have communication needs, you're given information you can understand, and the communication support you need.

This could be because you and/or your carer has:

  • a sensory impairment
  • a learning disability
  • a mental health issue
  • autism

What we're doing

We're reviewing our existing working practices and improving them to make sure:

  • we're proactive at finding out any information and communication needs you may have
  • we give you information in the format that you need it in
  • we give you the communication support that you need
