Maintained nursery places

A maintained nursery is usually on the site of a primary school.

You'll need to apply to us if you want your child to get a place at a maintained nursery.

If you're applying to an private provider, you'll need to apply directly to them.

Eligible dates

To apply for a September 2021 start, your child must have been born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018. We'll send you an email with information about the outcome of your application on 18 May 2021.

Early intake

If your child is born between the dates below, you'll automatically be considered for an early intake if the nurseries that you're applying for have places available and choose to offer an early intake.

If your child is born between 1 September 2017 and 31 December 2017, they could be considered for a January 2021 start. We'll send you an email with your offer at the end of November 2020.

If your child is born between 1 September 2017 and 31 March 2018, they could be considered for a April 2021 start. We'll send you an email with your offer at the beginning of March 2021.

We'll contact you to offer you an early intake place if your child is eligible. If you have not been contacted, you will not be offered an early intake, however you'll be still considered for a September 2021 place. You will not need to re-apply.

Application dates

The closing date for maintained nursery places is 31 March 2021.

If you want your child to be considered for a nursery place for January 2021 you should apply by 31 October 2020.

If you want your child to be considered for a nursery place for April 2021 you should apply by 15 February 2021.
