We know that community spirit is a big part of life in Stockport.
Checking in on family, friends and neighbours can help to build a support network and stop anyone from feeling isolated this winter – particularly this year, with the cost of living continuing to rise. It's especially important if you know someone who is older or more vulnerable.
Why not start a conversation and ask them if they need any help? This could be:
- doing household tasks
- going shopping
- collecting a prescription
- dog walking
- giving them a lift to appointments
- clearing their path of snow
If you can, make sure their home is warm and they're eating well, and try to visit more often during very cold spells.
Here are some more tips to look after each other and combat social isolation:
- join a community group: visit the Stockport Live Well directory to find one near you
- get involved in community events: explore what's on using our events calendar
- get your winter vaccinations to protect yourself from serious illness and prevent spreading viruses to others
- stay up to date with weather updates from the Met Office:
