This topic paper outlines the rationale behind the draft Local Plan’s proposed approach to meeting future housing and employment needs. It brings together national policy requirements and supporting evidence to explain how the proposed strategy has been developed.
Integrated Sustainability Appraisal
The Integrated Appraisal, also known as the Integrated Sustainability Appraisal, assesses the potential environmental, health, climate, and equalities impacts of the draft Local Plan.
It fulfils statutory requirements for Strategic Environmental Assessment and reflects our commitment to robust, transparent decision-making. The appraisal will be updated to inform each stage of the Local Plan's preparation. Some final amendments to the draft Local Plan were made after this iteration of the Integrated Appraisal had been completed. The potential impacts of these changes will be considered at the next stage of the plan's preparation.
Habitat Regulations Assessment
The Habitats Regulations Assessment evaluates whether the draft Local Plan could affect protected European sites, in line with the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017.
It supports informed decision-making and will be updated to inform each stage of the Local Plan’s preparation. Some final amendments to the draft Local Plan were made after this iteration of the Habitats Regulations Assessment had been completed. The potential impacts of these changes will be considered at the next stage of the plan's preparation.
