Basic map reading skills
Basic map reading skills are assessed in Hackney carriage, private hire and executive hire knowledge tests. You’ll be provided with a basic map and will be asked to navigate between points on the map.
Points of interest
Your familiarity with points of interest and nearby areas in Stockport will be assessed in the Hackney carriage knowledge test.
You’ll be asked questions with a choice of 4 possible answers. You’ll be asked about the name of the general area rather than a specific road name. Examples of potential questions include:
- where is Etherow Country Park?
- where are the Roman Lakes?
- where is Staircase House?
- where is Stockport County Football Ground?
- where is the nearest large Morrisons to Stockport Town Centre?
- where is Bridgehall Community Centre?
- where is Burnage Rugby Club?
- where is the Plaza?
- where is the Alexandra Hospital?
- where is the Redrock cinema, gym and bowling alley complex?
Routes
Your knowledge of routes is also assessed in the Hackney carriage knowledge test.
You’ll be asked questions with a choice of 4 possible answers. Questions about road names will generally ask for the A number, for example 'A6'. Examples of potential questions include:
- are you permitted to drive your Hackney carriage vehicle through any of the bus gates or bus lanes in Stockport?
- which main road would you take from Stockport College to Stepping Hill Hospital?
- what is the name of the airport link road running from Hazel Grove to the airport?
- which other district of Stockport is Bramhall closest to?
- which is the closest district to the town centre?
