1. About the Local Government Election
Stockport is made up of 21 wards, each represented by 3 local councillors. Local elections are held every 3 of a 4 year cycle.
On 6 May 2021, elections will be held across Stockport to elect local councillors. These elections will fill one seat in each of the electoral wards.
The Notice of Election will be published on 29 March 2021.
Nominations to stand as a candidate at the local elections close at 4pm on Thursday 8 April 2021. Find guidance and resources for candidates and agents on the Electoral Commission Website.
Registering to vote
The deadline for registering to vote is 19 April 2021. The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on 20 April.
Electors can either vote in person or by post, or can appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf. To apply to vote by post, or arrange a proxy, contact our dedicated election line on 0161 217 6026 or email email@example.com.
