About the elections

Stockport is divided into 21 wards, each represented by 3 local councillors on the council. One seat in each ward will be up for election, with 21 seats being contested in total. Each duly elected candidate is elected for a 4-year term of office.

To vote in the elections, you must be registered to vote. The deadline to register to vote is Monday 20 April.

To vote by post, you must apply by 5pm on Tuesday 21 April.

To vote by proxy, you must apply by 5pm on Tuesday 28 April.

Poll card and postal vote delivery dates

Poll cards will be sent from Tuesday 31 March via Royal Mail to all electors who were registered to vote by Wednesday 18 March. For anyone who registered to vote after that time, a poll card will be sent on Wednesday 29 April.

Postal votes will be sent first class on Wednesday 22 April to everyone with a postal vote in place by Wednesday 1 April. If your postal vote application is approved between Wednesday 1 April and Tuesday 21 April, your postal vote will instead be despatched on Monday 27 April.
