The Legal and Democratic Governance service is a team of over 60 like-minded colleagues working at the heart of the public sector, improving outcomes for residents and service users.

The work we undertake covers the whole of the democratic journey, which starts with delivering elections for the borough.

I have been able to build my skills and knowledge in various aspects of the service we deliver as I have progressed, and I now oversee the team I first joined as an apprentice.

This also includes clerking committee meetings which are the foundation of our democratic structure.

We also support the council, its residents and service users through our 5 legal teams, namely:

Litigation (including Employment)
Planning and Highways
Property
Social Care

We pride ourselves on putting our colleagues’ wellbeing at the centre of their role. This helps to seek a balanced approach as far as possible between the significance and seriousness of the roles and the rest and recuperation needed to consistently perform them.
