Keeping the streets clean

1. Overview

We are committed to making sure that the borough remains clean and attractive for both visitors and residents.

Street cleansing services cover over 600 miles of public highway ensuring Stockport’s streets are maintained to standards laid out under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Street cleansing is the removal of grit, mud, litter, grease, debris and leaves from the highways. It is the standard of cleanliness rather than the frequency of the cleansing that is important. Our sweeping and cleansing programme concentrates on those areas which need attention most based on four grades of cleanliness.

You can report issues online using the forms on the next few pages. If you cannot find the information that you are looking for on the website or need further information you can contact the Roads and Footpaths team.
