4. Retaliatory Eviction

In some cases, where a tenant is no longer within an AST and instead is on a periodic tenancy (e.g. a month by month basis), their landlord may decide to seek possession of their property rather than undertake the necessary repairs. This can also be the case where a landlord is contacted by the Housing Standards Team.

For this reason, it is imperative that tenants put their issues in writing to the landlord prior to contacting the Housing Standards Team, as this could ultimately provide protection if the Local Authority take certain enforcement action against the landlord in relation to disrepair.
