Resettling and rehousing when your hosting arrangements end

A number of our Ukrainian guests will be coming to the end of their initial 6 months living with their host. We've already contacted hosts to find out if you're planning to extend your hosting arrangements.

If you have not yet responded, email us at migrantcommunities@stockport.gov.uk.

The options available to Ukrainian arrivals at the end of their hosting arrangements are:

  • we may be able to help you find another host if any are available and their accommodation is suitable

  • private rented accommodation. You may be able to find a private tenancy which you will have to pay for. This could be from money you earn or benefits you claim

  • for single people who are living with hosts, we may be able to help you match with other Ukrainian guests. You might want to consider a house share in private rented accommodation

  • you may wish to relocate to another part of the UK if you have friends or family living in that area

  • you may also be thinking about returning back to Ukraine or going to another country

You can find useful information on our Housing pages.

Obtaining a National Insurance number

It’s really important that adult Ukrainian guests apply for a National Insurance number. This is a requirement for anyone who wants to claim Universal Credit. It is free to apply for a National Insurance number on the GOV.UK website.

Claiming Universal Credit

It’s really important that Ukrainian guests apply for Universal Credit as soon as possible. It can take up to 5 weeks for their claim to be accepted. You can find out how to apply for Universal Credit on our website. Contact us if you are experiencing delays or problems with your Universal Credit claim.
