Changes to marriage registrations from 4 May 2021

From 4 May 2021, you'll no longer sign a marriage register or be given a marriage certificate during the ceremony, instead you'll sign a Marriage Schedule. This is a one-page document which contains the details of both people getting married which are needed to register a marriage.

After your ceremony has taken place the registration officer will keep the signed Marriage Schedule and return it to the register office to add the details onto the electronic register, as soon as possible. Your certificate will be posted out or you can arrange to collect it within 7 days. If your ceremony took place in a religious building, other than a Church of England building, you will need to apply for any copy certificates you need. Each person is still required by law to give a notice of marriage and the marriage ceremony will remain the same, it's only the way in which a marriage is registered that will change.

6. Reaffirmation of marriage vows

A renewal of vows ceremony is a very special way of celebrating your marriage and love for each other.

This is a unique occasion for everyone involved and is a chance to gather together your closest family and friends.

Any married couple can arrange a renewal of vows ceremony.

The cost of Renewal/Reaffirmation of Vows Ceremonies are as follows:

Robert Hyde Room

  • Monday to Thursday: £100
  • Friday: £125
  • Saturday: £150

(A deposit of £50 will be deducted from the fee)

Brumwell Thomas Room

  • Monday to Thursday: £150
  • Friday: £175
  • Saturday: £200

(A deposit of £50 will be deducted from the fee)

Approved Premises

  • Monday to Thursday: £175
  • Friday: £200
  • Saturday: £225
  • Sunday and Bank Holidays: £250

All the above fees are inclusive of VAT at the current standard rate and are subject to review annually.

Renewal ceremonies may be held at the Register Office or at a number of approved, suitable venues throughout Stockport.
