Notice of marriage or civil partnership

Before you can get married or form a civil partnership, both parties are required legally to give notice of intention. There is a statutory charge per person for this service. The fee will be higher for each notice if you're referred to the Home Office as a couple, under the referral and investigation scheme.

You'll also be charged a non-refundable administration fee of £5 per person.

Marriage or civil partnership in the Henry Bell Room, Stockport Register Office

The fees for the Henry Bell Room, inclusive of one marriage or civil partnership certificate, are as follows:

Use of Henry Bell Room (available on Tuesday mornings only) £68.50

An additional booking fee of £40, including VAT, is required to secure the date and time of your choice. This fee is non-refundable, non-transferrable and does not come off the cost of the ceremony.

Marriage or civil partnership in the Robert Hyde Room, Stockport Register Office

The fees for the Robert Hyde Room, inclusive of one marriage or civil partnership certificate, are as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday: £135
  • Friday: £165
  • Saturday (morning only): £220
  • booking fee: £40

An additional booking fee of £40, including VAT, is required to secure the date and time of your choice. This fee is non-refundable, non-transferrable and does not come off the cost of the ceremony.

To change the date or time of your ceremony, you must pay another booking fee of £40.

Marriage or civil partnership in the Sir A Brumwell Thomas Room, Stockport Register Office

The fees for the Sir A Brumwell Thomas Room, inclusive of one marriage or civil partnership certificate, are as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday: £190
  • Friday: £275
  • Saturday: £330
  • booking fee: £40

An additional booking fee of £40, including VAT, is required to secure the date and time of your choice. This fee is non-refundable, non-transferrable and does not come off the cost of the ceremony.

To change the date or time of your ceremony, you must pay another booking fee of £40.

Marriages or civil partnerships at approved venues in Stockport

The fees for marriages or civil partnerships at approved venues, inclusive of one marriage or civil partnership certificate, are as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday: £370
  • Friday: £450
  • Saturday: £500
  • Sunday: £525
  • Bank Holiday: £1,050
  • booking fee: £40

An additional booking fee of £40, including VAT, is required to secure a confirmed time, date and venue. This fee applies to marriages or civil partnerships booked at an approved premise and is non-refundable, non-transferrable and does not come off the cost of the ceremony.

To change the date or time of your ceremony, you must pay another booking fee of £40.

These fees are subject to annual review and do not include the hire of rooms or any other wedding or civil partnership service.

This fee must be paid to the Superintendent Registrar at least 4 weeks before the ceremony is due to take place. It includes the cost of one marriage or civil partnership certificate issued on the day and the attendance of 2 Registration Officers.

Marriages or civil partnerships in Stockport Town Hall (Marble Staircase, Committee Suites and Council Chamber)

The fees for marriages or civil partnerships at approved venues within Stockport Town Hall, inclusive of one marriage or civil partnership certificate, are as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday: £245
  • Friday: £330
  • Saturday: £385
  • Sunday: £440
  • Bank Holiday: £880
  • booking fee: £40

An additional booking fee of £40, including VAT, is required to secure a confirmed time, date and venue. This fee applies to marriages or civil partnerships booked at an approved premise and is non-refundable, non-transferrable and does not come off the cost of the ceremony.

New fees for additional registration services

The Home Office have introduced new regulations under the Immigration Act 2016 to introduce new fees for services currently provided free. The fees have been set at a level to recover the full cost of the service.

The additional paid-for services include:
