You can read about what we mean by special education needs. If you're worried about your child or their development, there are a number of things that you can do.
If your child is aged 0 to 5, you can speak to:
- your child’s keyworker or the special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) at their nursery or pre-school
- your health visitor
- your GP
If your child is aged 6 to 25, you can speak to:
- your child’s SENCO at their school or education setting
- your GP
It can be helpful to prepare some notes with examples of your concerns, to discuss with the person you're speaking to about your child. You might want to:
- mention what difficulties you have noticed with your child and how long this has been going on for
- ask if the school or education setting has noticed your child having any difficulties
- describe how the challenges that your child is experiencing impacts on their daily life
