Housing Needs Assessment

In 2019, we carried out a survey to look at the current and future housing needs of all local residents. The survey split the borough down into housing market areas. It looked at:

  • residents incomes
  • their housing aspirations and needs
  • their plans for moving home or staying put

The extent of need for affordable accommodation in the borough continues to be high with the delivery of smaller one and 2 bed properties, as well as larger family accommodation recommended.

The majority of housing need is for smaller properties, but there is such a shortage of affordable family accommodation in the borough that turnover is very low. There continues to be a particular need for supported and specialist accommodation.

Improving choices for older people in the borough and those with physical disabilities is also increasingly important.
