4. Housing needs assessment

In 2015, Stockport Council carried out a survey to look at the current and future housing needs of all local people. This survey split the borough down into housing market areas and looked at people's incomes, their housing aspirations and needs and their plans for moving home or staying put.

The extent of need for affordable accommodation in the borough continues to be high with the delivery of smaller one and two bed properties, as well as larger family accommodation recommended.

The majority of housing need is for smaller properties, but there is such a shortage of affordable family accommodation in the borough that turnover is very low. There continues to be a particular need for supported and specialist accommodation.

Improving choices for older people in the borough and those with physical disabilities is increasingly important.
