Allocation Policy
Under Part 6 of the 1996 Housing Act all local authorities have to publish an Allocation Policy. The policy explains how social housing will be allocated, including:
- who qualifies to apply
- how households with be prioritised
- the processes to be used
To facilitate the priorities within the Housing Strategy and the Preventing Homelessness Strategy, our Allocation Policy has been reviewed.
Our policy details our commitment to meeting housing needs and how this may be achieved by making best use of existing stock. We can do this:
- through supporting existing tenants to move through mutual exchanges
- continuing to utilise options. For example: shared tenancies for young people
