1. About the Household Support Fund
Since October 2021, Stockport has received a grant from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to support the most vulnerable households across the borough with the rising cost of living. The Household Support Fund was extended for the period 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024. Each local council will use it to support those in need in their local area, as they can decide how best to do it quickly and efficiently.
Stockport has been allocated £4,326,259.
The Household Support Fund is there to help low income households, including:
- families
- pensioners
- unpaid carers
- care leavers
- disabled people
It provides immediate help for those who are struggling. The primary purpose of the fund is to support households with the cost of energy, although could also include help with:
- water
- broadband and phone bills
- food
- clothing
- hygiene products
The fund can also assist with transport-related costs such as car repairs, buying a bicycle or paying for fuel.
