The Heritage Economic Regeneration Scheme (HERS) started in May 2003. We jointly funded the scheme with the English Heritage. We also administered the programme.
Grants were available for improvement work to help preserve and enhance priority buildings within the market and Underbanks area. The grants were targeted at schemes that:
- achieved a comprehensive improvement to a whole building
- repaired and /or reinstated traditional architectural and historic features of the building, using traditional methods and materials
- improved prominent buildings or blocks of buildings, so achieving greater impact in upgrading the quality of the townscape
The HERS scheme has built on and complements building and environmental improvements already made with funding from the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB), the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Conservation Area Partnership scheme (CAP).
You can find examples of completed schemes in the HERS Facelifting projects document (PDF 174Kb).
