Support for young people aged 16 to 25
Young people aged 16 to 25 years can choose from our options for support and advice. These options include:
- your own access plan to share with college tutors and staff. The plan is produced with you to support your access to college learning and environment
- personal development targets, relating to your vision impairment or hearing loss, set in partnership with you
- advice and support from Specialist Teachers of Vision Impairment and Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People
- signposting to services that can offer support and advice
- signposting to social events and activities for young people with vision impairment or hearing loss
- information about your rights as a young person with vision impairment or hearing loss. For example, access to work and disabled student allowance applications
- information about specialist technology for college or at home
- skills building to support you to tell someone about the adjustments that you need
- skills building to prepare you for work by making your vision impairment or hearing loss a positive so that it is not a barrier in job applications or interviews
- guidance and coaching to prepare you for adult life in areas linked to your hearing loss or vision impairment. This includes:
- employment
- independent living
- travel
- friends
- community
- your adult health appointments in audiology and ophthalmology
