What you need to tell us

If you claim Housing Benefit, or if you're already claiming and a non-dependant comes to live with you, you must:

  • tell us what your non-dependant’s income is
  • provide evidence of their income

If you cannot provide the evidence we need, maybe because the non-dependant will not tell you how much they earn, the law says we must make the highest deduction from your Housing Benefit.

It's very important that you tell us if there are any changes affecting your non-dependant. For example;

  • they move out
  • their income changes
  • somebody new comes to live with you
