What we do
East Cheshire Chess Club is for anyone who likes to play chess.
Members come along to the club night on Wednesdays at 7:30pm (apart from public holidays) between September and May to play chess.
The club also opens over the summer approximately fortnightly. While members do come along to the club to play each other informally, a very important activity is to play team chess matches against other chess clubs in the Stockport Chess League. The results are submitted to the English Chess Federation (ECF) and registered players obtain a national grading.
We currently field four teams of between four and six players, one in each of the four divisions of the Stockport League. We also have club competitions and social evenings involving blitz chess competitions and refreshments.
Over the summer members participate in the Stockport rapid play competition. Anyone who likes playing chess against their computer should come along. Playing against another human being is a very different and rewarding experience.
