Pavements
Pavements are dealt with on a priority basis. The areas that are gritted include steep roads that are main routes to:
- schools
- train and bus stations
- health centres and hospitals
- retail centres
Priority 1 pavements, which are based on a risk assessment, will be treated before 9am.
Priority 2 pavements will be treated if the conditions are persistent and there are resources available.
Areas may not be treated on weekends when it's no longer a priority; for example, school routes have limited use on a weekend.
Priority pavement and cycle routes will normally be gritted during working hours using all available resources.
You can find out which pavements are our priorities in our winter service operational plan.
